About Playing House:
Just recently, the thought of soft peaks, homemade pie crust, and making an entire meal on my own sent me into an anxious tail-spin. I started Playing House in July 2008 as a journal to keep track of my successes and failures as I learned my way around the kitchen from scratch. A year and a half later, I can't get enough. The cooking, the baking, the photography, the writing, and especially the eating.

There's no rhyme or reason to the recipes I share, the main thing they have in common is that they all sound delicious to me, and it's all food that I'd share with my family and friends. Sometimes I cook, sometimes I bake, and it's always done with love.

I'm endlessly inspired by other food bloggers, so I keep a running Foodie To-Do list on the sidebar of recipes from other blogs that I plan on trying. Suggestions are happily welcomed!

Why Playing House? I like to approach life with a childlike sense of wonder. It makes everything more fun, don't you think?

About Me:
I live with my husband Andy and my best buddy Oliver, our 5-year-old rescue dog. I'm almost done with my Masters in Social Work, but I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. I also do research at a local nonprofit that works with children and families.

We live in Oregon, but I've lived in Southern California, Nebraska, and New York, and my personality is definitely a hybrid of traits from all of those places. When I graduate this summer, I really, really want to move here. Or here. Or maybe even here! But probably the first one.
Oliver:

I love farmers markets, berry picking (and eating), my Macbook, rice, birthdays, tomatoes, The Sound of Music, and anything lemon-y.
I've recently started running after a lifetime of hating exercise, and it's the most empowering thing that I've ever done. You can read more about what got me off the couch on my running blog.

You can find my all-time favorite blog posts here, and a bit more on my bloggy feelings here. I hope that you find inspiration here too, and I'm so glad that you've joined me on my adventures.
Hugs,
Amy I.

Just stumbled on you, and this is random, but our dogs look really similar. Kinda cool since they're both mixes, I haven't seen any other dogs that look like her:

Hi again! As far as I know, Tess is a lab-shepherd mix. And that seems about right--a small lab plus these markings:

She also has behaviors that definitely fit with those breeds. Either way, I think she and Oliver are outstanding looking dogs.
Hey there! I got to your website somehow and love it. I'm a grad student too just starting my own blog. It started out of my love of food mixed with wanting to share information about my future profession, physical therapy. (Sometimes I wish I was in social work though.)
I see that you are training to run, awesome! Best of luck :)
Hi Bridget, thanks for stopping by! What's your blog? I'd love to take a look. I've been seeing my PT for a couple of years now for various things, and I swear she's a miracle worker. I tell everyone I know with any kind of ache/pain to try PT :)

I'm started my own blog in December and it has been a blast. Stop by and see me if you get a chance. You are now listed on my blog list ;).
