Catching Up to Real Time

Oh, hello little blog! Nice to see you! I don't know if I've blogged about all the incredible new kitchen fun-ness we were lucky enough to receive as wedding gifts. Here's some of the cookware (Calphalon One Nonstick) in its new home:

It's really amazing how the quality of cookware and bakeware can improve the quality of the food that comes out of it. Not only that, but having miscellaneous kitchen gadgets makes cooking so much more entertaining and convenient. I've been steadily working my way through Bittman. Last week, I made an Asian-inspired dinner with his help.

One thing we've been wanting to make and/or perfect for a long time is the cucumber dish from P.F. Chang's. It's one of Andy's favorite things ever, and each time we have it, we always say that it should be so easy to make at home and that we should try it. I happened to have that weird long cucumber from the farmers' market last week, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

I used the Soy and Sesame Dipping Sauce and Marinade on pg. 776. It came out really well, pretty close to the original, though next time I won't use quite as many sesame seeds. Even though I love them, they kind of overwhelmed the dish.

I'm working to remember to take pictures of the finished product, because it's kind of anticlimactic when I don't. Oh well!

I'm going to hold off typing out recipes for a while and see how that goes. Since I'm not writing this blog for a wide audience, just for my own reference, I figure that noting the page # will be sufficient. I mean, I already have the recipes and it's really time-consuming to type them out.


We had Fried Rice with Egg (pg. 212) with the cukes. Added tofu too. The day before, I purposely cooked a batch of rice and stuck it in the fridge (it was not easy to fend off the temptation of large quantities of Amy crack, but I did it). I've read that fried rice is really only good with cold, leftover rice. I do what I'm told.

We used our new wok, yay! It was so fun! Here are all the ingredients all prepped. I had it ready to go before I picked Andy up from jiu-jitsu, so I could just throw it in the wok and eat. Unfortunately that plan failed since I forgot to fry up the tofu first, but Andy came to the rescue and did it for me.

Again, I forgot to snap a picture of the finished product. The problem with blog procrastinating is that I can't even remember if the rice was yummy. I think it was, I don't remember having leftovers!
